Hi, I’m Kristen.
I’ve been obsessed with the fantasy genre since I picked up Harry Potter when I was twelve years old. I didn’t know back then that I wanted to be a writer; in fact, I didn’t know until last summer when I sat down and wrote an entire book in six weeks. The first draft of In the Blood was… let’s just say rough. But wow, did I learn a lot along the way. The most important thing I learned is that writing was not just a hobby for me, but a calling. It’s what fills my cup and fuels my fire.
I’m also a photographer, wife, mother, and former zookeeper. I’ve worn a lot of hats thanks to having ADHD and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I’ve always believed that life should be lived in chapters. My current chapter is my favorite so far. As the mom of a toddler, balancing two businesses, I’m always busy and sometimes life gets hectic—but honestly, I’m starting to think I prefer it that way. At least being busy distracts me from the dumpster fire that is the USA right now.
Just like Marigold, the main character in ITB, I am an optimist. I believe that a better world is possible. Artists are never more important than in times of oppression. I stand for equality and kindness and so do the good guys in my books.
